Paddy Power pledge £1,000 for every 180 at the PDC World Darts Championship

This incredible partnership will help us to ensure men are diagnosed earlier and more accurately and save more of the 12,000 men that die from prostate cancer each year in the UK.

This festive season, Paddy Power, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and Prostate Cancer UK are joining forces to save lives with THE BIG 180

We’re proud to be the official charity partner of this year’s Paddy Power World Darts Championship, which will kick off on 15 December at London’s Ally Pally (Alexandra Palace) and run until the final on 3 January, 2024.

During the must-see sporting spectacular, THE BIG 180 will see Paddy Power donate £1,000 for every maximum thrown by players.

The maximum score in darts is 180 (which accounts for three treble 20s with a players’ three alloted darts) so for every 180 thrown at the iconic tournament, we will earn £1,000 to help fund lifesaving research and support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.

Last year, there were a total of 901 scores of 180, so the world’s top sharp-shooters like reigning champion Michael 'Bully Boy' Smith and stars Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price could help us raise almost £1 million this time around.

This incredible support will help us to ensure men are diagnosed earlier and more accurately and save more of the 12,000 men that die from the disease each year in the UK.

Working with Paddy Power and the PDC, we also want to get 180,000 darts fans to check their risk using our 30-second risk checker, to ensure more men know their level of risk and what they should do about it.

Among those hailing the epic partnership is passionate supporter Tracy Fletcher, whose fundraising in darts stands at more than £464,000.

Tracy, whose partner was diagnosed by chance after researching the origins of Jeff Stelling’s pin badge on Soccer Saturday more than eight years ago, is the driving force of 'Team Darts' at Prostate Cancer UK.

A selfless, passionate and proactive supporter, she inspired multi-time world champion Martin 'Wolfie' Adams to tell his own prostate cancer story, and has inspired hundreds of top level darts personalities to wear the Man of Men pin badge, including double World Champion Peter 'Snakebite' Wright. Her tireless work has seen her attend events across the UK and Europe, and she even designed and sold her own Team Darts shirts.

She said: “We’re proud to work alongside Prostate Cancer UK and it’s wonderful to know that funds raised by Paddy Power will allow them to get men diagnosed earlier and more accurately.

“Knowing that every darts player that stands on the oche at the Ally Pally will be shaping a better future for others is absolutely incredible.”

Prostate Cancer UK Chief Executive Laura Kerby said: "We are thrilled to become the official charity partner of the Paddy Power World Darts Championship and thank Paddy Power and the PDC for uniting the darts community as we target this disease head on.

“This iconic tournament is a sporting staple across the festive period, and THE BIG 180 will put us at the heart of the action. It will be a complete game changer for men and their loved ones affected by prostate cancer - one maximum at a time."

“Prostate cancer is curable if caught early, but early-stage prostate cancer often has no symptoms, so it is vital that men know their risk – and we hope 180,000 fans will do that during the tournament via our simple online risk checker. We thank Paddy Power, the PDC and its players and officials, and of course the fans for all their wonderful support.”
